Man Shot by HPD at Scene of Hit-And-Run in Southwest Houston

A man has been hospitalized with at least one gunshot wound after officers said he refused to drop his weapon at the scene of a hit-and-run crash.

Houston Police said officers responded to the scene of the hit-and-run crash in Richmond near Hillcroft shortly before 3 a.m. Sunday.

A man was located inside one vehicle as it appeared the other car involved had left the scene. Officers said they went to check on the man and then he got out of his car with a gun in his hand. They commanded the man to put the weapon down but officials said he did not comply.

The man then turned toward the officers, who opened fire and hit the man at least once, according to HPD.

The suspect was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. None of the officers were hurt.

Officials are now searching for who else may have been involved in the incident.
