An ice cream product sold in stores around the country, including in South Carolina, has been recalled over the risk of causing a severe allergic reaction.

The Mochi Ice Cream Company LLC has issued a recall of 1,350 cases of its Peach Mango Sorbet as it potentially contains undeclared pasteurized cooked egg whites, according to a recall notice shared by the U.S. Food & Drug Administration. This could pose a risk of a "serious or life-threatening" reaction for consumers with an allergy or severe sensitivity to eggs.

The recall only affects the My Mochi brand Peach Mango Sorbet with lot numbers 337-24 and 341-24, found in the freezer section and packaged in a 6-count orange box. The product was distributed to retail stores nationwide.

According to the FDA notice, an investigation into why the affected lots didn't have eggs listed on the packaging indicates that the problem occurred due to a "temporary breakdown in the company's packaging process." At least two minor allergic responses have been reported in connection to the affected products.

Anyone who has purchased the listed mochi is urged to return the product to the place of purchase for a refund. For more information about the recall, visit fda.gov.
