Broward County, FL - A fatal chain-reaction crash on Interstate 95 in Broward County claimed the life of a Fort Lauderdale woman early Monday morning.
Authorities confirmed the accident occurred shortly before 6 a.m. in the northbound lanes of I-95, just north of Oakland Park Boulevard.
According to the Florida Highway Patrol (FHP), the tragedy began with a four-vehicle crash.
As one of the involved drivers was speaking with a woman standing outside her car, a secondary accident took place.
A Ford pickup truck lost control during the second crash, flipped over, and fatally struck the 53-year-old woman.
Emergency responders transported the woman to Broward Health North, where she was pronounced dead.
Her identity has not yet been released.
Aerial footage from the scene revealed an overturned vehicle and emergency crews actively responding to the wreckage.
By 7 a.m., significant traffic delays stretched for miles as all northbound lanes of I-95 were shut down for approximately six hours.
The driver of the Ford pickup, a 42-year-old man from Hialeah, sustained non-life-threatening injuries.
Florida Highway Patrol is continuing to investigate the cause of both crashes.
