Winter Weather Concerns Prompt Closures Across Baton Rouge Area

A blast of Arctic air is on its way to south Louisiana, bringing with it the coldest temperatures so far this season and the potential for wintery weather conditions.

The threat is prompting area schools, along with state and local agencies, to announce closures for Tuesday. Here's a list from our partners at Louisiana First News:

Ascension Public Schools

Schools will be closed on Tuesday, Jan. 21, but will have an asynchronous virtual learning day. All after-school activities are canceled.

Assumption Parish Schools

The school system confirmed that schools will be closed on Tuesday, Jan. 21. Officials said schools will prepare to facilitate a virtual learning day.

“If further closures become necessary, we will communicate updates promptly via email, our district and social media websites, and our other official communication channel JCampus. Please continue to check these sources for the most accurate and up-to-date information,” the school system said.

City of Baker School System

For everyone’s safety, the City of Baker School System will be closed on Tuesday, Jan. 21.

Catholic High School

Catholic High School’s campus will be closed on Tuesday, Jan. 21 due to potentially hazardous weather conditions expected for our area. CHS will hold an Electronic School Day on Tuesday, Jan. 21.

The Dunham School

The Dunham School campus will be closed Tuesday, Jan. 21, and Wednesday, Jan. 22, due to the forecast threat of winter weather.

East Baton Rouge Schools

All EBR Schools will be closed on Tuesday, Jan. 21. Remote learning will not be required, according to the school system.

East Feliciana Public Schools

All East Feliciana Public Schools and offices will be closed on Monday, Jan. 20, in observance of Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Day and will remain closed on Tuesday, Jan. 21, due to the potential impacts of next week’s cold weather system.

FranU

Franciscan Missionaries of Our Lady University will have remote operations on Tuesday, Jan. 21 as it continues to monitor the weather conditions.

Helix Community Schools

All schools in the Helix Community Schools network will be closed on Monday, Jan. 20 and Tuesday, Jan. 21.

Iberville Parish Schools

All Iberville Parish public schools and offices will be closed Tuesday, Jan. 21.

IDEA Public Schools

IDEA Public Schools are closed on Tuesday, Jan. 21 due to winter weather.

Louisiana State University

LSU’s physical campus will be closed on Tuesday, Jan. 21 but classes will continue. Students are asked to check school emails and Moodle for further direction. The closure includes the University Lab School and the LSU Early Childhood Education Laboratory Preschool.

Louisiana School for the Deaf and Blind

Louisiana School for the Deaf and the Louisiana School for the Blind will be closed on Tuesday, Jan. 21.

Pointe Coupee Parish Schools

Pointe Coupee schools and the school system’s district office will be closed Tuesday, Jan. 21.

Southern University

Southern’s Baton Rouge campus will be closed Tuesday, Jan. 21. The university said classes and offices will shift to remote operations. The closure includes the Southern University Agricultural Research and Extension Center and Southern University Law Center.

West Feliciana Parish Schools

Due to the potential for snow and icy conditions, West Feliciana Parish Schools will be closed on Tuesday, Jan. 21. If weather permits, students should complete their remote learning assignments.

All Louisiana state offices will be closed Tuesday

Ascension Parish Sheriff’s business offices

Business offices will not be open on Tuesday, Jan. 21. The Sheriff’s Sale on Wednesday, Jan. 22 has been canceled.

Ascension Parish Government offices

Government offices in the parish will be closed on Tuesday, Jan. 21 because of possible winter weather. Regular operating hours are scheduled to return on Wednesday, Jan. 22.

The Ascension Parish Government said, “Employees will be kept informed through the Everbridge Emergency Alert System and should remain in contact with their supervisors for instructions on who needs to report to work.”

Baton Rouge City Court

Due to the anticipated inclement weather that is expected in East Baton Rouge, Baton Rouge City Court will be closed to the public on Tuesday, Jan. 21, unless further extended by the Order of the Court.

Gonzales City Hall, offices

City Hall and offices will be closed Tuesday, Jan. 21, according to Mayor Tim Riley.

St. Helena Parish Sheriff’s Office

The St. Helena Parish Sheriff’s offices will be closed on Tuesday, Jan. 21.
