Former Second Gentleman Doug Emhoff reportedly avenged his wife and former Vice President Kamala Harris after she was snubbed by a GOP senator's husband earlier this month.
According to CNN, Emhoff deliberately rejected a handshake from Bruce Fischer, the husband of Nebraska Senator Deb Fischer, on Monday (January 20) amid incoming President Donald Trump's inauguration.
“Why would you try to shake my hand when you wouldn’t shake my wife’s hand?” Emhoff reportedly told Bruce.
Emhoff's move came after video of Bruce Fischer refusing Harris' handshake went viral earlier this month. The snub occurred on January 3 after Harris swore his wife in for her third term as Nebraska senator. The two women shook hands before Harris offered Deb's husband a congratulatory handshake to which he refused.
“I’m not going to bite, don’t worry,” Harris said during the visibly awkward moment.
A source close to Emhoff told CNN that the former second gentleman hadn't forgiven Bruce for the snub when they met at Monday's White House ceremonial tea, which occurred before the motorcades headed to the US Capitol for Trump's swearing-in ceremony.
After Emhoff addressed the snub, Bruce Fischer reportedly apologized. Once it was time to head to the Capitol, tempers cooled and the two engaged in cordial conversation, according to CNN.
