ARCADIA (CNS) - Santa Anita Park suffered its first racehorse fatality of the year this weekend when a 5-year-old thoroughbred with 15 career races was euthanized after an injury, track officials confirmed.
Don't Fight the Fed fell at the three-eighths pole during Saturday's eighth race and was taken off the track via equine ambulance.
"Don't Fight the Fed was immediately attended to by the official veterinarian," Santa Anita said in a statement. "Sadly, his injury did not allow for a surgical option and he was humanely euthanized on the track."
He had three first-place finishes in his career, including in his last race, on Dec. 27 at Santa Anita.
The Arcadia track had 14 horses die from racing or training injuries in 2024.
