The snow that blanketed the south last week was beautiful, but it kept an Alabama couple from being able to get to the hospital in time for the birth of their son. Sha’nya Bennett was in active labor while the baby’s father, Keon Mitchell was driving to the hospital, but the winter storm, which dumped as much as 11-inches of snow in the state, forced them to pull over in a Krispy Kreme parking lot.
The doughnut shop in Dothan was only a mile from the hospital and the parents were on the phone with 911, but Bennett couldn’t wait. She delivered their son, Dallas, right there in the car in the Krispy Kreme parking lot with his dad by her side, just before paramedics arrived. The mom of two proudly called herself a “superwoman” and Krispy Kreme is offering some sweet rewards to the family for Dallas’ impressive arrival.
When the manager of the store found out, he promised the baby boy’s parents free doughnuts for a year, as well as to host Dallas’ first birthday party next January. Then Krispy Kreme jumped in to upgrade that with an offer to throw Dallas a birthday party “every year until he’s all grown up!” It’s the perfect welcome gift for the kid who’s birth certificate is believed to be the first to name Krispy Kreme as the “place of birth.”
