Tinder-Adds-An-AI-Wingman-To-Help-Struggling-Users!

Dating apps can be a great way to meet people, but between deciding which pictures to use or how to create catchy messages to potential love interests, some people could use some extra guidance and now they’re getting it, in the form of high-tech help. The Match Group, the company behind dating apps including Tinder and Hinge, is adding new AI-powered features to help singles.

They’re rolling out an AI chatbot to be a wingman that can help them decide which photos will be popular, write messages to matches and give “effective coaching for struggling users.” The chatbot will even flag messages that are “off-color” and prompt the user to reconsider sending it. Research from Match Group finds that one-fifth of those who get that notification re-think sending it.

“We think of it internally as ‘too much, too soon,’” explains Yoel Roth, the head of trust and safety at Match Group. “In the context of online dating, where young people grow up and enter the dating marketplace. . .there’s a real need and opportunity to help people understand the norms and behaviors that go along with respectful and consensual dating.” He says that a big part of the company’s safety approach is “focused on driving behavioral change so that we can make dating experiences safer and more respectful.”
