The ongoing I-81 Viaduct Project in Syracuse is causing the temporary closure of the on-ramp from Sunset Avenue to I-81 northbound. Starting Thursday (April 17), the ramp will be closed on weekdays from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. until Friday (April 25). The New York State Department of Transportation is overseeing the work, which involves removing the Bear Street Bridge's retaining wall as part of the project.
Drivers will need to follow a signed detour that directs traffic north on Sunset Avenue, east on Bear Street, and north on Lodi Street to rejoin I-81 northbound. According to CNY Central, the construction is weather-dependent, and schedules may change based on conditions.
The project is part of a broader effort to improve infrastructure and traffic flow in the area. As reported by WSYR-TV, the closure is necessary to ensure the safety and efficiency of the ongoing construction work. Motorists are advised to plan their routes accordingly and allow for extra travel time during the closure period.
