Kings, GM Rob Blake Part Ways After Playoff Exit

LOS ANGELES (CNS) - The Los Angeles Kings and general manager and vice president of hockey operations Rob Blake have mutually agreed to part ways, the team announced Monday.

Team President Luc Robitaille said the search for a new general manager will begin right away.

The Kings were eliminated from the Stanley Cup Playoffs last Thursday by the Edmonton Oilers, losing 6-4 in Game 6 of the best-of-seven Western Conference first round.

It was the fourth consecutive season the Kings have lost to the Oilers in the opening round of the playoffs.

"On behalf of the entire organization, I would like to thank Rob for his dedication to the LA Kings and the passion he brought to his role," Robitaille said in a statement. "Reaching this understanding wasn't easy and I appreciate Rob's partnership in always working toward what is best for the Kings."

Robitaille said Blake played a key role in the team's growth and will always be valued for his contributions to the franchise.

During his eight seasons as general manager, Blake led the Kings to a 309-238-71 regular-season record and five playoff appearances.
