Sure, artificial trees are more practical, but it seems people really like getting a real tree. According to a new survey by the Real Christmas Tree Board, 85% of Americans say a real tree makes their home feel more like the holidays. 89% said the smell of a real Christmas tree makes their home feel festive, 85% said it enhances their holiday experience, and 84% find it relaxing. And, it seems once you go real, you rarely go back … 90% of those who switched to a real tree wish they’d done it sooner and hope their kids continue with the real tree tradition.
As for what’s motivating first-time buyers this year, the top reasons are wanting to try something different (42%), the desire to create a more authentic holiday experience (37%), and real trees providing a unique scent that they enjoy (36%).
