Michael Broadie, a 40-year-old Albany resident, pleaded guilty to criminal possession of a weapon in Albany County Court on Thursday (December 4). This plea is related to an incident on September 6, 2024, when a witness saw Broadie with a handgun in a Madison Avenue apartment. According to NEWS10 ABC, police later found a loaded Beretta 9mm pistol, two additional guns, and two grams of cocaine at a relative's apartment where Broadie had stashed his belongings.
Broadie is expected to be sentenced to 10 years in prison, followed by five years of post-release supervision, on February 9. Meanwhile, he faces more serious charges in Rensselaer County for a separate incident in December 2024, where he allegedly fired at Troy police officers. In that case, Broadie is charged with first-degree attempted murder, second-degree criminal possession of a weapon, and seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance.
The December 2024 incident occurred when Troy police attempted to stop Broadie, leading to a shootout where officers fired 18 shots, hitting Broadie in the torso, leg, and hip. WNYT reported that Broadie is currently held in Rensselaer County Jail as he awaits trial for these charges.
