Dutchess County Legislator-elect Emma Arnoff has decided to withdraw from the race for the New York State Senate. Arnoff, who was recently elected to represent District 2 in the county legislature, initially announced her intention to seek the Democratic nomination to challenge incumbent State Senator Rob Rolison. However, she has since changed her mind.
In a letter shared on social media and provided to Mid-Hudson News, Arnoff cited her commitment to her constituents as the primary reason for her decision. She stated, "In conversations with constituents, one message has come through clearly: my work in the legislature is deeply important right now, and serving the people of District 2 is where I’m needed most." Arnoff emphasized her desire to focus on her current role and help maintain the Democratic majority in the county legislature.
Arnoff's election marked a significant shift in the county's political landscape, as Democrats gained control of the board for the first time since 2008. The upcoming elections in 2026 will see all 25 legislative seats serving one-year terms to align with the state's new even-year election plans. Winners of the next legislative election will serve two-year terms.
