The Contemporary Era ballot for the National Baseball Hall of Fame was released, and the results of the voting will be announced this Sunday. There are 8 players on the ballot including controversial candidates Barry Bonds and Roger Clemens but if any of them want to make the Hall of Fame they need 75% of the vote from a 16-member committee. Rick Klein, ABC News Washington Bureau Chief, spoke with Mendte in the Morning about the two names on the ballot that he is personally hoping get inducted.

“I think it is time for Don Mattingly and Dale Murphy and both of them are near and dear to my heart,” Klein told host Larry Mendte. “This could be a dream scenario, or it could be a nightmare scenario for little Rick Klein… I really think there’s a very strong chance for Murph and Mattingly.”

Klein thinks Murphy’s dominance during his era are a great plus for his chances: “In the 1980s and 1990s an 11-year period, nobody hit more home runs in Major League Baseball [than Dale Murphy]; only Eddie Murray had more RBIs.”
