The New York State Department of Transportation (NYSDOT) has opened a new highway facility in Hopewell Junction, Dutchess County. On Thursday (December 4), Commissioner Marie Therese Dominguez and State General Services Commissioner Jeanette Moy unveiled the Lime Kiln Yard, a state-of-the-art storage and maintenance facility. The $15 million, 20,000-square-foot building took three years to complete and will serve as a hub for NYSDOT operations in Dutchess and Putnam Counties.

The facility will house 26 workers and 14 trucks, enhancing the department's ability to maintain 230 lane miles of state roads. It features modern amenities such as 14 indoor wash bays, LED lighting, plug-in stations for electric vehicles, high-efficiency heating, and an above-ground fuel system. Commissioner Dominguez emphasized the importance of the facility, stating, "This state-of-the-art facility will ensure that our dedicated crews have the facilities, materials, and equipment they need to maintain and operate our state roadway network."

According to Mid-Hudson News, the Lime Kiln Yard replaces a historic structure on the same site and will improve response times to severe weather and other highway emergencies. Commissioner Moy highlighted the facility's role in supporting the DOT's mission, saying, "This new residency ensures that our region will be better served — not just during storms or emergencies, but every single day."

Local officials, including State Senator Rob Rolison and Assemblymember Anil Beephan, praised the new facility for its potential to improve transportation infrastructure and ensure safer travel for residents. The facility's opening marks a significant investment in the region's transportation network, benefiting both commuters and emergency services.
