Last week in rural Iowa, a twoâyearâold collie named Doug Doug fell through the ice on a pond near his home. Deputy Marty Wonderlin and Volunteer Fire Chief Loren McIntosh used a rope, kayak, and life preserver to reach the dog.
McIntosh crawled across the ice and pulled Doug Doug out after he briefly went underwater. The collie was cold and in shock but survived, with rescuers noting the dangers of hypothermia. Wonderlin described the incident as a rare âfeelâgoodâ rescue. Doug Dougâs owner later confirmed he is recovering well and now more cautious near the pond.
