An investigation is ongoing into a fatal crash on the New York State Thruway in New Paltz. On Monday (December 8), 60-year-old David Moyal from Kingston was driving north when his Mercedes-Benz collided with a parked construction vehicle. The crash occurred near milepost 80.7, where the 2003 Freightliner was part of a construction operation diverting traffic from the left to the right lane. Moyal was transported to HealthAlliance Hospital in Kingston, where he was pronounced dead, according to Times Union.

The construction vehicle, occupied by 28-year-old Kyle Patrick Quinn from Saugerties, was positioned partially in the left lane and the left shoulder. Quinn was not injured in the incident. Mid Hudson News reported that the crash happened around 11:15 a.m., and the exact cause of the collision remains unclear.

State Police are urging anyone with information about the crash to contact them at Highland by calling 845-344-5300. The investigation aims to determine whether factors such as speed played a role in the crash. As reported by Daily Freeman, the incident's location was initially misreported as Esopus but has been corrected to New Paltz.
