On Wednesday (December 10), the Saratoga County Board of Supervisors approved a $434 million budget for 2026. The budget includes a 5% reduction in the property tax rate and was passed unanimously at a special meeting. The plan aims to maintain investments in public safety, senior services, and essential community programs.
Saratoga County Board of Supervisors Chairman Phil Barrett stated that the budget reflects the county's fiscally conservative principles and protects vital services. Barrett emphasized the county's success in 2025, noting initiatives that benefit the economy and enhance recreational opportunities.
The county projects $170 million in sales tax revenue for the coming year, while state and federal mandates are expected to cost over $86 million, surpassing property tax collections by more than $8 million. The budget highlights concerns about escalating mandated costs and potential reductions in federal and state funding, which could impact essential programs and operations.
In 2025, the county implemented several new programs, including expanding the Environmental Health segment, redeveloping the county airport, and approving a new animal abuse registry. The budget also supports new parks and trails and seeks a permanent solution for biosolid disposal.
News10 ABC reports that the county continues to manage debt service, which remains below 1% of all operating expenditures.
