According to a Reddit post from her sibling, the woman has schizophrenia and saw a message on her fridge that read, "We're sorry we upset you, Carol," on a creepy yellow background. The woman's name is also Carol, so she believed someone was trying to communicate with her through the appliance.
She spent two days in the hospital while doctors adjusted her medication. Her sibling later saw the same ad on Facebook and realized it was a promotion for "Pluribus," an Apple TV+ show with a main character named Carol. Samsung began showing ads on its smart fridges earlier this year, though owners can turn off the feature in settings.
