Uber is introducing its first-ever kiosk at LaGuardia Airport in New York City. The kiosk, located in Terminal C, offers a phone-free way for travelers to book a ride. This service is particularly beneficial for international visitors without a local data plan, travelers with dead phone batteries, or those preferring a simpler method to request a ride. Users can tap the screen, enter their destination, choose their ride type, and receive a paper receipt to take to the pickup point.
Time Out reports that Uber plans to expand these kiosks to hotels, ports, and international airports in the coming months. This initiative comes as part of Uber's broader strategy to make travel more accessible and convenient, especially during busy holiday seasons.
In addition to the kiosk, Uber has launched its shuttle service at Newark Liberty International Airport, completing its coverage of all major New York and New Jersey airports. The shuttle operates on two fixed routes, offering affordable fares under $15 during the launch period.
According to Uber's newsroom, the company is also enhancing its tipping feature, allowing iOS users to tip drivers directly from their lock screen before the trip ends. This update aims to increase driver tips and improve the overall rider experience.
The Independent notes that Uber's new services, including the kiosk and shuttle, are part of its efforts to streamline airport transportation and cater to the influx of international travelers expected for major events like the World Cup.
