DW: Is this a form of carism?
Genesis is recalling some G90 luxury sedans, but only the ones painted in a specific shade of silver. The problem? The car's radar system was getting confused by its own paint job. The Savile Silver color contains aluminum flakes that reflect radar signals, making the car think another vehicle is in the next lane. This caused the brakes to slam on without warning when drivers tried to change lanes at low speeds.
It's basically the car equivalent of an animal freaking out at its own reflection in a mirror. To fix the issue, Hyundai (Genesis' parent company) will replace the bumper beam with a sealed version that blocks the radar from bouncing off the paint. No crashes or injuries have been reported; current owners will be notified about the fix by the end of January.
