Billie Eilish is once again calling for gun reform after a series of violent shootings coincided with a deeply painful anniversary. On Sunday, December 14, the singer shared a message on Instagram stories honoring victims and urging her followers to take political action.
In her post, Eilish pointed out that the day marked the anniversary of the Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting, while news broke of multiple mass shootings across the world. “Today is the anniversary of the massacre at Sandy Hook Elementary, & we woke up to the news of mass shootings in Australia, at Brown University, & in Brooklyn,” she wrote.
Describing the moment as overwhelming, Eilish added, “This is so devastating. My heart goes out to all of the victims & their loved ones.”
The nine-time Grammy winner went on to encourage civic engagement, urging her audience to speak out and vote for change. “Raise your voice, work for change, & vote out anyone who’s not willing to reform gun policy,” she wrote.
The Sandy Hook shooting occurred on December 14, 2012, when a gunman killed 26 people — including 20 children — at a Connecticut elementary school. Thirteen years later, similarly violent attacks were reported within a 24-hour period. In Australia, a gunman opened fire during a Hanukkah celebration, killing at least 15 people. In Brooklyn, six teenagers were wounded at a birthday party, while authorities continue searching for a suspect in a shooting at Brown University that left two people dead and several others injured.
Eilish has long been outspoken about gun violence and the need for stricter laws in the U.S. In 2023, she joined the Artists for Action to Prevent Gun Violence coalition alongside fellow musicians advocating for legislative reform.
According to the Gun Violence Archive, the United States has already recorded 392 mass shootings so far in 2025 — a figure that underscores the urgency behind Eilish’s message.
