Before Bowie became Ziggy the band that would be the Spiders From Mars was brought together to create Hunky Dory!
The fourth album by Bowie, was released in December 17th 1971, as Bowie settled down to write new songs, during a break from touring. David assembled Mick Ronson, Trevor Bolder and Mick Woodmansey, at Trident Studios in London, with Rick Wakeman on piano before he would end up in Yes.
Bowie changed from the hard rock sound of The Man Who Sold the World, for the more melodic Hunky Dory, with songs like "Changes," "Oh! You Pretty Things" and "Quicksand."
RCA didn’t promote Hunky Dory or "Changes", very well so the album sold poorly and failed to chart. It was only after the success of Ziggy Stardust, that Hunky Dory garnered new interest, as it peaked at number three on the charts. Hunky Dory is widely thought of as one of Bowie's best works, and is considered one of the greatest albums of all time.
