Selena Gomez isn't keeping anything in the dark.

On Tuesday (December 16), the Rare Beauty founder, 33, shared a video to her Instagram Stories laughing off a comment asking about her "mustache" and addressing the question of her grooming habits while appearing to go makeup free, per People. After telling followers that she got a chuckle from someone who asked her "How do you shave your mustache?" Gomez noted that the darker tint above her lip was actually from her melasma and that, "I take care of it and treat it, but yeah it's there."

"I totally get it. It's from the sun," she said while encouraging viewers to wear sunscreen.

According to the American Academy of Dermatology, melasma is a common skin condition most commonly affecting women that causes patches and spots, often on the face, that are darker than one's natural skin tone. Causes range from exposure to sunlight and triggers from medications to pregnancy and stress.

While the latest question didn't seem to bother the Only Murders in the Building star, Gomez has been vocal in the past about the impact of harsh comments on her appearance. During a March 2025 appearance on the On Purpose with Jay Shetty podcast, she confessed that she often feels "bitter" when people comment on her weight.

"Everyone just has something to say and it's really making me sad and — not even sad 'cause, I'm not a victim, everyone — I just think it's made me a tad bitter and I feel really guilty for saying that but it's true," she said.

The Wizards of Waverly Place actress also previously shared why she made the "scary" decision to open up about her mental health struggles.
