The Albany Patroons, a team in The Basketball League, announced that they will not participate in the 2026 season. Instead, the team will focus on enhancing community engagement and improving the gameday experience at the Washington Avenue Armory. The Patroons plan to return to the court in 2027, aiming to provide an improved experience for their fans.

The Patroons, who rejoined the Albany sports scene in 2018, initially played in the North American Premier Basketball League before it was rebranded. The team's decision to take a year off is part of a strategic plan to strengthen their presence in the community and ensure a better experience for fans when they return.

While fans may be disappointed by the absence of games in 2026, the team is committed to coming back stronger and more engaged with the local community. The Patroons' management has expressed optimism about the future and their ability to deliver an enhanced basketball experience in 2027.
