The Catskill Central School District will close all schools on Tuesday, December 23, due to a significant number of staff absences. The district is using an emergency closing day to address the staffing shortage, which is partly due to the closure of Questar III BOCES next week. This decision comes as the district faces challenges in ensuring adequate supervision for students.
Superintendent John Xanthis and Assistant Superintendent Deborah Johnson explained that while they expect to have enough staff on Monday, they will not have sufficient personnel to cover all students on Tuesday. The district emphasized that student safety remains a top priority, and they hope families can use the extra day to enjoy the holiday season.
Classes are scheduled to resume on Monday, January 5, 2026. Parents and guardians with questions are encouraged to contact their child’s building principal. Updates will be posted on the district's website.
According to the district's announcement, the decision to close is intended to give families time to plan for the additional day off. News10 ABC reported that the district apologized for any inconvenience caused by the closure.
