Do You Over Clean Your House When People Come By?

I swear, anytime we had people come to our house my mom would always freak out and tell us to clean the mess or nobody would be coming in the house. The same thing goes when it came to the holidays. She would clean forever before anyone had even thought about coming to the house. Is this normal?

For us it was, but what about your family?

The average person spends over two hours cleaning on Christmas Day compared to just 90 minutes eating dinner. Which means everyone else is having a good time and you're still working on cleaning and keeping the house together. But do people care? They know what kind of mess they made already and are probably not expecting the cleanest spot they have ever seen.

Before guests arrive, hosts conduct a 14-minute “festive spruce” using shortcuts like focusing only on visible surfaces, hiding clutter in cupboards, and using multipurpose cleaners (got to get rid of that pet smell you know lol).

I'm from the school "I invited you and you get what you get." Meaning if my house isn't clean enough for you, then you can just bail.
