Police in Northern California are reminding residents that holiday generosity has its limits — especially when it comes to drugs.
The Auburn Police Department reported discovering a makeshift “free weed” stand near a local high school over the weekend. Officers said the display featured a handwritten sign wishing passersby a “Merry Christmas” and advertising complimentary marijuana as “organic and cage free.”
According to police, the setup included 29 mason jars filled with marijuana and was spotted after a nearby resident alerted authorities. Officers responded and safely removed the items from the area.
The department said the marijuana was disposed of properly and used the incident as a reminder that leaving drugs in public spaces — particularly near schools — is not an acceptable way to celebrate the holiday season.
