A Connecticut family is raising money to "tip" an airport waitress whose act of kindness toward their toddler went viral on social media.
In the video, Brittany Bell, a waitress at the TGI Fridays in the Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport, appeared to comfort the two-year-old son of Chalaine Scott during a layover after the child became overwhelmed and close to a meltdown. Bell picked up the crying toddler, took him to get strawberries, and hugged him as she continued to serve other customers.
“While on our layover, my husband and I stopped to eat with our three kids (all under 5 years old),” Scott wrote in GoFundMe started to support the waitress. “It had already been a long day of traveling, and my 2-year-old was on the verge of a meltdown.” She said Bell stopped what she was doing, invited the child to get a treat and immediately put him at ease, despite him typically being very shy.
Scott said the experience was a reminder that "it takes a village" and that small acts of kindness can have a big impact.
“The world is full of so much hate and division, so when you find someone who’s just pure joy, they can really make an impact,” Scott wrote. “Bell is spreading love and giving everyone a much-needed reminder that there is still good in the world.”
The GoFundMe fundraiser set a goal of $13,000 and has already raised nearly $12,000 in support of Bell.
