A Waynesboro man is facing a felony charge after police say a road rage encounter escalated into a stabbing late last week.

According to the Waynesboro Police Department, officers were called to the 1200 block of West Broad Street around 10 p.m. on December 10 for a reported traffic-related dispute. Investigators determined that John Rodgers, 59, became involved in an argument with a 37-year-old woman from Augusta County.

Police allege the confrontation turned physical, at which point Rodgers used a long-bladed weapon to stab the woman. She was transported to University of Virginia Medical Center for treatment. Authorities said her injuries were not life-threatening.

Rodgers was arrested at the scene and is being held without bond at Middle River Regional Jail. He has been charged with aggravated malicious wounding, a felony offense, and appeared yesterday (December 18) in Waynesboro General District Court.
