Black People Magic: Making History in Chicago Comedy at The Second City

Congratulations to the magical Julia Morales... she will make history in the new year as the first woman of color to direct the 2026 Second City Black Excellence Revue.

Julia joined Second City about 10 years ago... she's originally from Houston and came to Chicago after studying improv comedy in her hometown and later in New York City where she moved after receiving the NBC Diversity Scholarship to study both improv and sketch comedy.

She was a 2018 Bob Curry Fellow and is a Second City Mainstage alum. She also teaches in the Comedy Studies program at The Theatre School at DePaul University and is a Programming Director at iO Theater.

Her history-making turn leading the Second City’s 4th Annual Black Excellence Revue, "Black and Highly Flavored" opens in Up Comedy Club at Second City on February 5th... it's all about joy and honoring Black artistry, humor, resilience, and community.

Support--and laugh with--Julia and her cast for Black History Month... get tickets at this link.

& Remember to always celebrate your magic! xo
