Community Connect has several ways to help the kids in your life have a merry Christmas and have some free winter fun, too!
Today, join the Dorothy Jeanius Steam Leadership Institute at their Winter Wonderfest & Toy Giveaway with Founder/CEO Dr. Dorothy Jean Tillman (granddaughter of iconic Chicagoan and former Alderman Dorothy Tillman), at the Harold Washington Cultural Center (4701 S. King Drive, Chicago). Doors open at 1pm with a performance at 2 pm. Children must be present to get toys and they'll have toys that are appropriate for children's ages from toddlers to 13 years old. The Institute is also hosting a community free wash day tomorrow (Sunday, December 21st) at Wash and Relax Laundry, 1153 W. 69th Street, Chicago beginning at 1pm. You do need to RSVP for wash vouchers, available while supplies last with free resources also onsite for mental wellness and nutrition. (See flyer below for more information.)
And on Monday, December 22nd, Kidz Korna hosts their 20th Anniversary Toy Giveaway from 1-4pm at 6530 South Parnell Avenue, Chicago. Their goal this year is to reach up to 3,000 homeless and low-income kids in the Chicagoland area with toys and gifts. Their other focus is to empower families with additional resources for violence and abuse prevention along with other support they need. Founder Delece Williams has also expanded this event to the Kidz Korna's Giveaway Tour going through December 24th to promote city-wide involvement impacting all Chicago area communities in need. Especially during the holiday season, let's make sure we're all getting the help we need and giving all the help we can!
