Motorists in the Capital Region are experiencing relief at the gas pumps as fuel prices have decreased. According to AAA, the average cost for a gallon of regular fuel in the region is now $3.07, marking a drop of four cents over the past week and seven cents from a month ago. The state average is slightly lower at $3.06, while the national average stands at $2.85.
The decrease in fuel prices comes as a welcome change for many drivers, especially during the holiday season when travel is at its peak. AAA reports that this December is the cheapest at the pump since the end of 2020. Despite increased demand for gasoline during the holidays, a strong supply and stable crude oil prices have contributed to the decline in costs.
In the broader region, prices vary, with Vermont at $3.12 and New Jersey at $2.97. The District of Columbia reports higher prices at $3.19, while Connecticut's average is $3.05.
