St. Augustine, FL - St. Augustine has been recognized as Florida’s best small town to visit in 2026 according to a newly released national travel ranking, placing the historic city among the top destinations in the country.
The ranking evaluated small towns with populations under 50,000 and focused on factors including attractions, cultural experiences, dining options, affordability, and overall visitor satisfaction.
The city ranked No. 16 nationally on the list of the best small towns to visit in the United States.
It was the only Florida destination to make the top 25, standing alongside well known travel towns such as Bar Harbor in Maine, Telluride in Colorado, Leavenworth in Washington, and Jackson Hole in Wyoming.
Founded in 1565, St. Augustine is the oldest continuously occupied European established city in the continental United States.
The ranking highlighted the city’s historic architecture, Spanish colonial landmarks, and preserved sites including the Castillo de San Marcos, St. George Street, and the St. Augustine Lighthouse.
Visitors are also drawn to the city’s museums, art galleries, and waterfront views.
In addition to its historical significance, St. Augustine offers access to Atlantic beaches, nearby state parks, and a walkable downtown area with locally owned shops and restaurants.
The city is also known for guided historical tours, seasonal festivals, and attractions tied to its colonial and maritime past.
St. Augustine has consistently performed well in recent travel rankings.
Earlier statewide lists placed it among the top destinations in Florida overall, reinforcing its reputation as a popular and reliable travel choice.
The latest ranking reflects the city’s continued appeal to travelers seeking history, culture, and coastal scenery in a smaller town setting.
