The Music of Billy Joel benefit concert is set to take place at Carnegie Hall’s Stern Auditorium on March 12, 2026. The event will feature a star-studded lineup, including Rufus Wainwright, The War and Treaty, Bettye LaVette, Joy Oladokun, Tanya Tucker, Mary Chapin Carpenter, Gavin DeGraw, Matt Nathanson, Alexa Ray Joel, O.A.R.’s Marc Roberge, Matchbox 20’s Rob Thomas, and Train’s Pat Monahan. More artists will be announced as the concert date approaches.
This concert is part of the 21st annual Music Of tribute series organized by promoter Michael Dorf. The series aims to raise funds for music education programs, having already generated over $2 million for underserved communities in New York and beyond since 2004.
Billy Joel, who announced his diagnosis with Normal Pressure Hydrocephalus in May, is not currently slated to perform at the event. However, the house band will feature Joel’s own live band members, including bandleader David Rosenthal and other longtime collaborators.
American Songwriter reports that this concert follows the successful 2025 Patti Smith tribute, which sold out before any performers were announced. The Music Of series has previously honored legends like Bruce Springsteen, the Rolling Stones, and Prince.
Tickets for the concert are expected to sell quickly, with proceeds supporting music education initiatives.
