Kite's Nest, a youth education organization in Hudson, has been awarded $7 million by the state to build a new youth education campus. The grant will transform the former Riverloft site, which was damaged by fire in January 2017, into the ReGeneration Campus. This new facility will focus on youth leadership, environmental justice, and ecological education.
The ReGeneration Campus will be located on a two-acre riverfront property and will feature an 8,500-square-foot education facility. This facility will include innovative learning spaces such as an arts workshop, digital media and recording studio, learning kitchen, performance and event space, and classrooms. The campus will also have a 1,400-square-foot learning greenhouse completed in 2022.
The funding comes from various state agencies, including the New York State Council on the Arts, the New York State Energy Research and Development Authority, and Empire State Development. New York State Governor Kathy Hochul announced the funding, emphasizing the project's commitment to local youth education and community development.
Kite's Nest co-Executive Director Kaya Weidman expressed gratitude for the support, stating, "The ReGeneration Campus will be a permanent home where children and teens can thrive, where their voices are centered, and where they can lead the way in building more just and resilient communities." The project is expected to serve as a model for sustainable development and contribute to New York's climate goals.
Construction of the ReGeneration Campus is set to begin in January. For more information about Kite’s Nest and the ReGeneration Campus, visit Kite's Nest.
