Saying goodbye just before boarding your flight may be making a comeback, as some U.S. airports are once again letting friends and family pass through security to walk travelers to the gate. Oakland San Francisco Bay Airport just rolled out a guest pass program that allows non-travelers to enter post-security areas after applying online and getting TSA approval in advance. Similar passes already exist at airports in places like Cleveland, San Antonio, Kansas City, Philadelphia, and Detroit, bringing back a pre-9/11 tradition many travelers remember fondly. The programs are limited and can be paused at any time, but for now, airport reunions and gate-side goodbyes are officially having a moment again.
