Raq, a single 20something in New York City, recently put bachelors on blast with a list of “bare minimum rules” for men on a first date.
She shared the seven rules on social media, in a post that’s racked up over 1-million views, and quite a bit of controversy. While Raq lays it all out for the fellas, critics call her out for being “high maintenance” over these.
- “Pay the bill (if you split the bill, I will never speak to you again AND I will slander you)”
- “Open the door (ALL doors) – I don’t touch doors”
- “Let her order first”
- “Let her sit in the booth (obviously)”
- “Offer to walk her home/to car/to Uber – to prove you’re not a huge p–sy”
- “Do not mention your ex, your situationship, or ‘this girl I used to talk to’”
- “Sidewalk rule – if you don’t know it that explains why you’re single.”
Some commenters agreed with Raq’s rules, including one who writes, “Standard etiquette, anything below this basic standard is a nonstarter.” But hundreds shared their outrage with the post, including:
- “Funny how ‘bare minimum’ for men always comes with maximum entitlement for women,” one comments.
- “I don’t disagree, but your tone, especially on point 2 makes you sound high maintenance and undateable (unless I was drunk/desperate),” a second shares.⠀
