It Only Took Hours for Oil Companies to Step Up for Venezuela

Some of the biggest oil companies in the world are already eyeing investments in Venezuela, less than three days after the dramatic US military operation Saturday that resulted in the capture of that nation's president.

Houston-based Chevron, which already has a deal with the official Venezuelan oil company for exporting oil to the US, said Monday it's in talks with investors to spend $2 billion on new investment deals.

Shell could earn billions of dollars, according to the UK Telegraph, with new Venezuelan gas projects following President Donald Trump’s ousting of Nicolás Maduro as president.

And the man whose investing acumen was the subject of the hugely successful movie, 'The Big Short,' said Monday he's been holding shares of San Antonio-based Valero Energy since 2020 and believes the stock is increasingly attractive as the US prepares to play a role in the Venezuelan oil economy.
