Rapper Tekashi 6ix9ine has begun serving a three-month federal prison sentence after turning himself in at the Metropolitan Detention Center, Brooklyn on Tuesday. The 29-year-old, born Daniel Hernandez, reported to the Brooklyn facility to start the roughly 90-day term for violating the terms of his supervised release tied to a previous federal racketeering and firearms case.
Hernandez was accompanied by internet personality Adin Ross, who livestreamed the rapper’s surrender, giving fans a rare view of his last hours before going behind bars. During the nearly two-hour online broadcast, Hernandez and his entourage were seen together as he prepared to begin his sentence, with Hernandez later posting on social media, “Thank you guys so much, see you in 3 months.”
The three-month term stems from multiple probation violations, including drug possession and an assault incident while Hernandez was on supervised release following his 2018 guilty plea in a gang-related racketeering case. He previously served about two years in prison for that case under a plea deal in which he cooperated with authorities.
The Brooklyn detention center where Hernandez is housed is known for holding high-profile inmates and has faced scrutiny over its conditions. As Hernandez serves his sentence, questions remain about what direction his career will take once he is released.
