Melrose Elementary School in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, went into lockdown on Tuesday (January 6) due to an incident that reportedly involved a gun. The lockdown occurred during dismissal after an altercation from the community spilled onto school grounds. According to the Harrisburg School District, the lockdown was a precautionary measure following a report of a possible gun involvement.
The Harrisburg Police Department responded promptly, securing the perimeter and assessing the situation. Officers determined there was no active threat, allowing the lockdown to be lifted. "All students and staff were safe, and administrators dismissed students from the building," a spokesperson for the school stated.
The incident did not originate on campus but was significant enough to warrant the lockdown. The police confirmed to CBS 21 that there was no shooting in the area, and students were safely dismissed.
