(Iowa) -- Iowa’s unemployment rate decreased in November after several months of increases.
“This is the first decrease we have seen in a few months. The rate had been trending up for several months prior to November, and combined with the fact that our labor force participation rate remained the same, more people are getting jobs and actually working,” said Beth Townsend, executive director of Iowa Workforce Development.
The unemployment rate fell to 3.5 percent in November, down from 3.7 percent in September. There was no unemployment data reported for October due to the government shutdown.
Iowa added 4,600 jobs in November.
Several industries saw job growth during the month, including education, health services, construction, and wholesale trade. Manufacturing and hospitality recorded job losses.
