A mother in England has been charged with murder following the death of her 4-year-old daughter in a house fire, per PEOPLE.

On Tuesday (January 6), Greater Manchester Police announced that Carrin Wibier, 45, has been charged with murder and arson with intent to endanger life in connection with the death of her daughter, Lesma-Rose Wibier. The child died after a fire broke out at a home on Gateshead Close on March 2, 2025, after emergency services were called to the scene.

Police previously confirmed that Lesma-Rose succumbed to her injuries following the fire. Authorities have not released further details about how the fire started.

Wibier appeared at Manchester Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday (January 7) via video link from custody. She was remanded into custody and is scheduled to appear at Manchester Crown Court on Thursday (January 8).

Following the child’s death last year, Lesma-Rose’s family shared a tribute through the police, describing her as a joyful and beloved presence.

“Lesma-Rose was the star of the family,” the statement read. “Anyone who knew her knew she was the most beautiful girl inside and out. She always had a smile on her face and could put the same on others.”

The family also described her as “smart and intelligent in her own unique ways,” adding that she will be “deeply missed by anyone who was blessed to meet her.”

An investigation into the incident remains ongoing. Police and prosecutors haven't disclosed whether additional charges could be brought or whether other individuals were present in the home at the time of the fire.
