Last week, Trevor Van Camp had just proposed to his girlfriend, Danielle Jenkins, while on a scenic sky bridge at a Michigan ski resort when the engagement ring slipped from his hand. It fell through the bridge’s open grating, dropping about 118 feet onto the snowy ski slope below.
The couple spent more than two hours searching with metal detectors, helped by resort staff. As the evening stretched on, snowmaking supervisor Pat Harper brought detectors from his car and joined the effort. Around 10 p.m., just as hope was fading, Harper’s detector picked up a signal beneath the snow.
Harper carefully dug through the snow and successfully recovered the ring. As the couple was getting ready to leave, they got the call confirming it had been found. Danielle later said the unexpected twist became a memorable part of their engagement story and she thanked Harper for saving the moment.
