(Davenport, IA) -- A trial is scheduled for the end of this month that could result in former members of Davenport City Council paying $2,500 fines.
A judge is ruling that members of Council aren't immune from liability, for a year-long delay in releasing the demand letter that led to a $1.6-million settlement payout made to former city administrator Corri Spiegel just over two years ago.
A Davenport resident was sued by the city to stop his Freedom of Information Act request for the letter, citing it as an HR issue.
The trial will determine if withholding the letter was a violation of Iowa's new Open Meetings Act.
