The National Weather Service issued a Winter Storm Warning on Thursday that goes into effect at 6 p.m. Friday until 12 p.m. Sunday. The warning is due to the potential for heavy wintry precipitation from Friday through Saturday night, which could pose a threat to bridges, overpasses, power lines, unprotected pipes, pets, plants and livestock.
Forecasters with the NWS said that a wintry mix could start falling in DFW between 1 p.m. and 5 p.m. on Friday. The wintry precipitation would start hours earlier to the north-northwest and arrive in the late afternoon to the south-southeast.
Freezing temperatures are expected in the Metroplex by 6 p.m. Friday and are not expected to rise above freezing until 11 a.m. Tuesday -- about 89 hours later.
