We spoke with Ed Matz, Executive Director of Connecticut Sports Management, about the ShopRite Nutmeg State Games.
The games, a nonprofit organization, feature 34 events for athletes aged 4-88, including Judo, ice skating, and track and field. The games, held in Middletown, attract 750 athletes and involve community outreach. The 35th anniversary highlights the games' significance. The Masters Games cater to older adults, with 290 participants in a recent pickleball event. Flag football, a growing sport, will be introduced this year. Volunteers are needed for various roles, and the organization encourages community support.
