Rays Take Series From Red Sox

The Tampa Bay Rays (26-13) defeated the Boston Red Sox (17-23) 4-1 on Sunday afternoon at Fenway Park. With the win, the Rays took two of three from their AL east rivals in a series that saw a fourth game rained out and will be made up on July 17.

Junior Caminero homered in the first inning - his eleventh of the year - to get the scoring started for Tampa Bay. The Rays then added RBI singles from Chandler Simpson and Ben Williamson in the third inning to make it 3-0. Cedric Mullens drove in a run on a sacrifice bunt in the sixth inning that made it 4-0. The Red Sox did get one back in the bottom of the sixth to pull within 4-1, but that would be as close as Boston would get.

Nick Martinez (4-1, 1.70) got the win for Tampa Bay, allowing one earned run in five and two-third innings of work in which he struck out three and walked none. Bryan Baker earned his tenth save of the season after working a scoreless ninth inning.

The Rays now travel to Toronto and will play the Blue Jays in a three-game series beginning on Monday night. First pitch Monday is scheduled for 7:07 PM - pregame coverage begins with Ronnie Lane hosting Inside Pitch at 6:00 PM on 95.7 WDAE & AM 620, your Home of Rays Baseball.
