2 more monkeys recovered, eating PB&Js, officials say

YEMASSEE, S.C. (WSAV) — The Yemassee Police Department (YPD) said that an additional two monkeys have been safely recovered Tuesday, bringing the total number recovered to 32.

Yemassee police said that the two recovered appear to be in good health and are eating PB&J sandwiches for dinner.

This leaves 11 monkeys still on the loose. Police said that a group of remaining primates have continued to be sighted and hear cooing to each other close to the traps and in the woods adjacent to the facility.

Police said that the efforts to safely capture the remaining primates will continue throughout the evening.

"We kindly ask the public to continue avoiding the area and to refrain from using drones near the facility," YPD said. "We sincerely appreciate the community's ongoing patience and concern during this time."

Should the public locate one of the escaped primates, officials said do not attempt to interact with them. Instead, call 911 immediately.

You can read more about the monkey’s escape on the WSAV website.
