SAVANNAH, Ga. (WSAV) — Richard Coleman (D) has been elected as the Chatham County sheriff.
Richard "Chief" Coleman is a Savannah native and a 30-year Georgia-certified peace officer. Coleman is a graduate of Sol C. Johnson High School and has a bachelor's degree in criminal justice administration and a master's degree in public administration.
Coleman is a certified Georgia Law Enforcement executive administrator and former chief of police. His experience extends through being a chief of Internal Affairs, assistant chief of police and Police Operations commander. Coleman is experienced in staffing, budgeting, policy, outsourcing, resourcing and community engagement.
Coleman has a focus on creating a safer community by empowering Chatham County's youth. He platformed an initiative called Coaches Against Crime (CAC). Coleman said that this program is dedicated to protecting our youth against the dangers of drugs and crime while fostering healthy habits and teamwork.
